Bamboo Craft Workshops

Join us making small accessories or a chopsticks holder with bamboo. The award winning Japanese Bamboo artist, Takayuki Shimizu, will take us to the world of beautiful bamboo craftsmanship.

Trained in Kyushu, Japan, Shimizu has been working with bamboo crafts for over 15 years. His works ranges from Bamboo baskets to modern installation artwork.

Students must be at least 10 years old to participate in this workshop, and parents are asked to stay with students who are 13 years old or younger.

Mother's Day Special - Trisket Basket Workshop

Date: Friday, May 4th, 2018

Class Fee: $150.00 (All Materials are included)
Enrollment: 4 seats

Come make a beautiful trisket basket! This basket can be a gift for your mother, or added to the decor at your home. We have a separate but related workshop on Saturday, May 12, where you can make a flower arrangement for the finished basket. This class is perfect for beginners as well as more advanced students.

*In order to complete the project within the timeframe, the instructor will place the staves into the base in advance.

Seats are limited. Please register as soon as possible to ensure placement in the classes.

Mother's Day Special - Flower Arranging Workshop

Date: Saturday, May 12th, 2018
Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Class Fee: $35.00 (Includes flowers)
Enrollment: 8 seats
Show your appreciation to your mother with flowers! ASonoko Nakai*, will teach flower arranging. You can use your trisket basket which you made on our trisket workshop on May 4th, or you can purchase a large glass basket for $20.00 (reg. price: $34.80) to use as a vase.

Students must be 14 years old or older.

About instructor: Born and raised in Japan, Sonoko Nakai has been practicing flower arrangement for over 10 years. After receiving a certificate from Hibiya Flower Academy, Tokyo, Japan in 2006, she continued to study preparing wedding bouquets in Tokyo. She ran a flower salon in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam between 2014 and 2017. She and her family currently live in Cambridge, MA.

Scrimshaw Workshops

Scrimshaw, the art of engraving on bone or ivory, was a pastime activity by whalers in the 19th century. The Scrimshaw artist Brian Kiracofe, based in Newport, Rhode Island, will guide you through the maritime world of scrimshaw by first carving on a vegetable ivory (a tagua nut) and then on an ancient mammoth ivory.

Students must be at least 14 years old to participate in the Adult workshop, and at least 10 years old to participate in the Adult/Kids workshop.
